The failure of reasoned liberals to address the horrific grooming gangs issue for fear of appearing “racist” has created a void, enabling ethno-nationalist far-right opportunists (eg Tommy Robinson, et al) to hijack it for their own nefarious motives: https://twitter.com/Yahuah1/status/1001864392517046273/video/1 …

Tommy Robinson an ethno nationalist? Come off it Ali. The man criticises Islam, not immigrants.

As someone who actually lived near Tommy, researching him and his former organisation, I can categorically tell you he is not an ethno-nationalist, and calling him one, when there are so many other reasons to criticise him, is counterproductive.

Interesting, I do think his and his supporters either ignorance of journalism law or blatant disregard for it didn’t do him favours though

I can't believe he was ignorant of the law. Is he trying to set himself up as a sort of martyr figure, jailed for his beliefs etc? He was probably surprised by the length of sentence he got though.

I think either that was his plan, or he just thought he'd get away with it. Considering the demonstrations and the fact the US ambassador got involved, I'd say he's done quite well for himself.

It seems likelier to me that he simply didn't understand that what he was doing would lead to a jail sentence.

Hmm very true. His manager should've known better though
