Not only are free speech & the block button compatible, but the block button, when used as intended, actually benefits free speech, because it helps the free market of ideas to regulate & refine *itself* by exerting selection pressures on sources of low-value speech.

Only if used in a partisan manner. I think the majority of people use the block button to filter out low-quality content (insults, spam, insanity, etc) rather than content they simply disagree with.
