I have long been deeply disturbed by the dystopian, unethical Great Barrington Declaration. But you have to hand it to them: they gained access to the highest levels of government in the US, UK & beyond & were able to shape Covid policy. They got much of what they wanted. Ugh.

With each wave, I thought their influence would wane, but I've been so wrong.

It amazed me also.. The little science behind early GBD claims (inherent immunity & no 2nd wave) was disproven by 2nd wave facts on the ground by mid CY20. To the point I couldnt see how they got airtime without ridicule, (or frankly still had a job for persisting to push it..)pic.twitter.com/EzzOExU47Z

They got what they wanted but how much of that is because they said what the people in power wanted to hear all along? That’s a much easier ask.

Yes, they said what conservative governments wanted to hear. They found a highly receptive audience.https://www.politico.com/news/2020/12/16/trump-appointee-demanded-herd-immunity-strategy-446408 …

They managed to do it in the way so many off-key voices have done it too often in the past; being vague enough that even formally rational people nod their heads and say “Yup, sounds good”. Put that in front of populist leaders … well, what should we expect?

Is that also why we’re practically not going to get EUA for kids <12 ? Because vaccines-only policy doesn’t explain it. They’ll manage to infect all kids, won’t they?
