100% efficacious. I see many blue checks on Twitter, with huge audiences, arguing that the unknown theoretical risks of vaccinating children far outweigh the proven benefits (100% efficacy) I don't fully grasp their reasoning. I worry that they are stoking vaccine fears 1/nhttps://twitter.com/jenkatesdc/status/1392624434180132866 …

I listened to the CDC ACIP meeting today on whether to recommend Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine for 12-15 year olds (they did). Here is one of the data highlights, in case you missed it. In the adolescent trial, the vaccine was 100% efficacious. 100%. https://twitter.com/jenkatesdc/status/1392502505448386560 …

I have spent much time for over a year now talking with & collaborating with global child health & global vaccination experts. They have convinced me that childhood COVID-19 vaccination will be a critical piece of the "global vaccine herd immunity" puzzle. Why? 2/n

In most low- & middle-income countries (LMICs), there isn't a "ready to go" adult vaccine platform. These weren't established. In contrast, decades of investment by LMICs, with external support from @gavi, has created an extraordinary delivery platform for childhood vaccines 3/n

If we want this pandemic to end quickly, experts in global vaccination campaigns argue that the childhood vaccine delivery platform will be critical for getting to vaccine herd immunity fast. Even in some of the lowest income nations on earth, this platform is in place. 4/n

I'm a bit nervous that the blue checks who are vocally & publicly saying that children shouldn't be vaccinated ("the theoretical risks outweigh the known benefits!") could end up affecting confidence in a tool that will be needed to end the pandemic. I hope I'm wrong. END

I don't think it'll make much of a difference, but I know they should've spoken up several weeks ago rather than now if they actual wanted anything to change other than getting attention for themselves.

First it was kids can’t catch COVID Then kids can’t spread COVID Then kids don’t die Then not enough deaths Then non-existent vaccine concerns Now vaccine equity (legit question) and all the while saying kids must be in school, no masks, no distancing Just #vaccinatekids

I agree. All nations should have agreed that the first 20% of the global vaxx supply would go to health workers/high risk people everywhere. Instead, some US blue checks rejected this & pushed hard for US vaccine herd immunity asap, including by vaxxing low risk adults 1/2

I think a lot of people wonder why developed nations are intent on vaccinating their children rather than sharing vaccines with low/middle income countries so they can vaccinate their vulnerable adults. An adult needs to take a child to be vaccinated wherever you live...

@fitterhappierAJ makes the point in his pinned tweet that we should avoid transmission of Covid infections to children to avoid harm in short and possibly long term. Herd immunity argument will be less compelling to parents.
