Strange phenomenon seems to be taking hold on Twitter: the shaming of people who decide to still be cautious after vaccination & shaming of people who say the pandemic isn’t over yet or who point to surges such as the one in MI. Apparently we must turn our frowns upside down 🙃

I am very optimistic that in rich nations with plentiful doses of vaccines, wonderful times are ahead. The vaccines are astounding. But the US pandemic isn’t over (82,000 new cases yesterday), India topped 100,000 new cases, Brazil is in crisis, global vaccine inequity is stark.

4 in 5 Americans are not fully vaccinated yet. Our rollout has been amazing, but I can’t see what would make someone argue that the US pandemic is “over.”

I think people have being shamed for being cautious for a while now in the U.K. I have been in the minority for months

There’s a large proportion of people in the US who haven’t been vaccinated yet. Some states are seeing surges. But people who point these things out get called “doom mongers.” I totally get the need for hope/optimism (I’m an optimist!) but we aren’t over this pandemic yet.

Most of Europe is still a disaster area. Amazingly the UK seems to have got it right for once. Still, we a long way from having a fully vaccinated population. However, pubs and holidays are more important than long term health, aren't they?
