My heart is bursting. On the eve of my first child's birth, my dad - who's been in prison nearly my entire life - was granted clemency. He never intended harm, yet his crime devastated many families. My heart breaks for the families that can never get their loved ones back.

David has been in jail for more than 35 years. That’s a lot longer than most people serve for murder. So where is the privilege? I am very happy for David, his father, and his soon to be born child.

It is a basic principle of the law governing criminal conspiracies that every party to the conspiracy is responsible for all its actions. You don't get to plan an armed robbery and plead that you didn't personally commit the ensuing murders.
