I've spent two evenings this week talking to people on doors in Chesham and Amersham. is right that voters there feel forgotten and taken for granted.

In the local elections, campaigned to improve the lives of our young people. The Conservatives disbanded the Oxfordshire Youth Service and we want to see it reinstated. Our vision resonated, resulting in record gains and ' largest ever group at the county.

Make votes matter, force politicians to work together in Coalitions to reflect the diversity of opinion in the country, give people a real say over decisions in their community, root out corruption & cronyism, break the damaging culture of two-party politics etc.

We have so many important things to say on the economy, not least giving people the security they need to lead their best possible lives & careers. But the distinct liberal message needed right now is clearly on fixing democracy. It’s what makes us unique, our original purpose.

Low scores across the board for the Lib Dems reiterate that we are still lurching from theme to theme without telling a clear story about who we are. The very distrust in politics people feel is what we’re supposed to be the antidote to. We must be louder about liberal reform.

In my ward this year only 20% of people voted, anything that reduces that further with no due cause it completely unacceptable.

We already have low turn out in elections and millions of people lack photo ID. Faced with having to take time off work to attend a local council office and request a special letter to let them vote, people will simply stay at home.

A reminder : Since 2010, a solid 33% of all eligible voters do not vote in General Elections. In local elections that number is often far higher. We should be making it EVEN EASIER to vote. Instead, this Govt is going full U.S. Republican.

Unless the are suggesting that eveyone will get photo ID for free in the Queens Speech, insisting on having it to vote in a General Election is putting democracy behind a pay wall.

The have made impressive gains in Oxfordshire against the Conservatives, a ringing endorsement of our hard work in communities across the county. Residents have voted for a greener, fairer and more caring county led by a council that listens.

There were big national headwinds shaping this result. So I’m really proud we defended our position as the challengers to broken two-party politics in But there’s also a clear local message: a maj. of voters opposed ‘s handling of leasing.

The picture is clear. Labour can no longer hold their 100-year old coalition together. If they don’t wake up and smell the coffee, embrace PR and join the rest of us in fighting for plural, multi-party politics, they’ll keep the Tories in power alone for another decade.
