This mother is so out of touch with reality. She should be ashamed of sitting there acting she's exempt from violence because she allegedly lives in a good neighborhood. It's not safe for adults anymore, but you knowingly let an 8yo leave a lone.

Jeremy The world is not safer. This story was aired on the same day they are talking about Mollie Tibbetts being abducted, killed and dumped; She was an adult and supposedly in a safe area also. Get your head out of the clouds and stop day dreaming Jeremy

Fearing your neighbors and constantly being worried that something bad is going to happen is going to lead to a terrible life. It's pretty much what the Nightly News instills in people today. The world isn't more violent, it's just broadcasted constantly.

The neighbor was wrong in calling CPS over an 8 year old walking the dog.

How is walking the dog different from walking to school? How far is too far for an 8yo, 3rd grade, to walk to school alone? One block, two blocks, three blocks? As the mother said, it depends on the neighborhood, the parent, and the child.

Unfortunately in today’s world, free range isn’t as simple as it used 2be.The danger is greater. I agree w/ its philosophy however I also agree that ppl should speak up when something doesn’t “seem right”. Isn’t the 1 call that saves someone worth the “inconvenience” of the rest?

Is the danger greater or is the ability to share more information faster infringing on everyone’s feeling of safety. That we have to pass Free Range Laws is SAD. Let the child do her chore, it’s obvious the nosy neighbor was watching out for the child.

Parents values aren’t the same which is sad & makes it hard 2 distinguish between abuse or old school upbringing. I worry about the small kids in my n’hood waiting 4 the bus. N’hood watch should include all neighbors & talk 2 each other 2be able 2report actual “non norm” actions.

We’re a little more wild out West than those back east. We let our kids make their way to and from the bus stop on their own.

Yep wild LOL ..if I see a car that’s lingering around or parked nearby that I haven’t seen b4,even tho I’m going 2 work I park my car & keep an eye on them until the bus gets there.Doesn’t make me nosy, or a busy body.if I just drove past & something happened I’d be heartbroken.

"nothing happened from this incident".... Until your family has had CPS called for absolutely no reason, don't say that. My mom was reported not long after she chose to homeschool me (i was 11 at the time). It was so stressful, it caused her to suffer a psychotic break.

You can't live your life in fear of the unknown! I don't think she did anything wrong with letting her daughter walk the dog! I know there are a lot of bad things that happen but you shouldn't quit living because of it!

Nosy neighbor could have spoken to mom first before picking up the phone. Being investigated by child services is no piece of cake.
