All public notices and speaker announcements are written and spoken in Mandarin. The educated youth seem to be the ones responsible these days for spreading information. They’re also the volunteers running around the towns and villages collecting information for local hospitals.

At anti-racist rally today a group of counter-protesters shouted: “Travel ban is not racist. There’s no racism in Australia.” They then shouted: “Get the fuck back to China! Don’t bring virus to Australia” and “There’re no aboriginal people.”

I haven't been saying much about this decision because it's just devastating, but this right here is why I have literally zero time for anyone who continues to think Canada has any kind of moral authority on anything.

Watching locals sort trash around Garze. It’s obvious who will suffer. The impoverished and uneducated. Rural regions. Towns that survive as a hub for the countryside/nomadic life. Not to mention all the masks that won’t be disposed of properly. in .

"Our laws are like a big choke hold on anyone that wants to show enterprise. If our modern green tape was in place in Captain Cook's times then Aboriginals would have had nothing to worry about." - This gobsmacking bullshit is why we do what we do.

“I won’t watch the footy if they don’t sing the anthem!” Look, just say you’re a racist piece of shit who hates Aboriginal people. We know it, you know it, so let’s just abandon the pretence and then we can all get on with our day, yeah?

Here are some images from a Gyalrong language primer, published in 2017. If you read Tibetan, I think you'll enjoy them...

we always talk about species 'becoming extinct' - wouldn't it be better to say they're 'being destroyed'... if we were constantly reading about all the species being destroyed rather than 'going extinct' wouldn't that give people pause for thought?

Residents of Garze “forced” to stay inside. Yesterday, military trucks I don’t recognize were asking the few shops that were open, to see the owners ID and highly recommending them to close. I was kicked out of my last hotel and taken in by another. in

Thanks to all who’ve spoken out against racism. Most Australians agree it’s no laughing matter. When newspapers try to smear the work of anti-racism as being a “race hustler” or “race baiter”, it shows what we are up against. We must always stand up to hate, bigotry and prejudice

And consider this: a primer which erases linguistic diversity & serves only to aid transition to literacy in another language is the best educational material that exists for any of Tibet's minoritized languages.

I fully support Gyalrongwa learning literary Tibetan, but if you need a parallel for why this textbook is not the way to do that, imagine a textbook that taught Tibetan to Tibetan speakers only to transition them to Chinese as fast as possible & then stopped teaching Tibetan.

Secondly, this book doesn't actually aim to teach Gyalrong. It is designed to accelerate acquisition of literary Tibetan by Gyalrong speakers. Gyalrong is only recognized insofar as it should be replaced by Tibetan.
