    The Privatization of Everything & ongoing decline of the civic commons ...

    We’ve been loving the local, public dog park. But it’s Manhattan, in the 2020s, so a neighbor just told me I need to join a private dog club. Better trained dogs there. More responsible owners. Cleaner. Safe. We’re new to dog world, but as a human, it broke my heart.

    If real, China’s ability to build something like this in days is absolutely phenomenal. There are things they do so much better than anyone else. There is plenty of room for critique, but we should take a balanced view. I’m rooting for the Chinese people.

    Similar projects in the US take years and cost billions of dollars. We aren't even talking about 2-3X better, China is >100X better in terms of speed. They can build a train station in one day while it takes years in the Bay Area.

    This is ridiculous and obviously an example of data science not working at a level of quality required to enable the product. Also, the product is wrong. As an employer, who cares if someone likes a tweet with "bad language"?

    I had to get a background check for my job, and it turns out the report is a 300+ page pdf of every single tweet I’ve ever liked with the work “fuck” in it. Enjoy your dystopian bs! *waves*

    Tech companies are making a big mistake staying on the sidelines. Not speaking up is the same as being complicit in bad tech As one of the former point people for the US for interop & data sharing w/ security+privacy, happy to go on the record anytime in support of the patient

    Tech companies have talked a big game about fixing health data interoperability, but have mostly stayed out of the discussions about the HHS' data-sharing rules. Some say it's a "missed opportunity."
