I mean I agree but I also wish the perceived solution to this was letting women do what they want rather than pressuring men to meet the same standardshttps://twitter.com/ezwrites/status/1366241868065894400 …

Like it's *sort of* progress if 100% of the main cast of a Marvel movie has to go on a strict diet for months before filming But it would be much *better* progress if that percentage actually went down to 0%, or at least went lower

The thing is, raising standards for men is the *easier solution* than lowering standards for women The former requires deploying resources to fuck up the lives of 2x as many people, sure But the latter requires *everyone* to all generally agree to stop being assholes

And that's a lot harder, it undermines the whole basis of a lot of shitty exploitative parasitic industries that exist to milk content and money and clicks out of making people feel bad

I really do see it as the equivalent of how capitalism would much rather increase the number of female billionaires than abolish the concept of billionaires And how the fact that it's easier to fight for those achievable goals means the world overall just keeps getting worse

(Like look if you see raising the bar for men as making progress we *have made progress* The expectation that an "action hero" be totally visibly shredded with near-0% body fat is a new thing that developed over the course of my lifetime)

There's some dark humor in the "ripped action hero" look actually being more dangerous to achieve than the female equivalent. As I understand it, the actors would die if they had to look like that for a month.
