A winter storm moving across the Central Plains today will spread heavy snow into the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes tonight and Thursday, and into the Northeast Thursday night and Friday. Heavy snowfall rates and some icing will create dangerous travel in many areas.

HOT OFF THE PRESSES: Updated total precipitation map for California for a period of 22 days stretching from December 26 to January 17. The AVERAGE over the ENTIRE STATE in that time frame was 11.47 inches, with several locations in central California setting 3-week records.

If my calculations are close, that's about 31 trillion gallons of water across #CAwx since Christmas. That's about 25% of the volume of Lake Erie!

As another Atmospheric River impacts the West, here's a look at the total precipitation from 12/24 - 1/10 across California. The excessive precipitation has resulted in many floods and even some mudslides, so be sure to protect yourself from the dangers presented by flooding.
This image shows the 17-day rainfall/liquid equivalent spanning from 12/24 - 1/10. Many areas of California have received copious amounts of rain, especially along the coast as well as higher terrain.

Everyone needs to be on alert for warnings from into the evening hours. Now is the time for mobile and manufactured home residents in the Tornado Watch to move to a safer place before storms approach and warnings are issued.

Some minimum temperature stats over masked CONUS domain from last week. Lowest average minimum across the domain was 8F on Fri. Dec. 23rd. The greatest difference in minimum temps occurred on Thu. Dec. 22 with ~122F difference between Yellowstone NP (-48.68F) and Miami (74.21F)!

In the coming week across the eastern 2/3rds of the CONUS, daily high temperature anomalies will rebound from about 20-30F below normal to 20-30F above normal by next Friday! Also by next Friday, not a below normal daily minimum temperature will be found anywhere in the CONUS.
