Auckland, New Zealand just recorded its wettest day ever causing deadly, severe flooding.
Over 10 inches of rain fell in 24 hours smashing the previous wettest day on record by nearly 4 inches!
Mind-boggling stuff.

A winter storm moving across the Central Plains today will spread heavy snow into the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes tonight and Thursday, and into the Northeast Thursday night and Friday. Heavy snowfall rates and some icing will create dangerous travel in many areas.

If my calculations are close, that's about 31 trillion gallons of water across #CAwx since Christmas. That's about 25% of the volume of Lake Erie!

There are many ways to analyze what's happened across the West over the past 3 weeks. At the end of this string of AR events, it all comes down to the extreme rainfall and snowfall totals, and the resulting impacts, especially across #CAwx. Nice maps from @NWSWPC!
