Phil Hernandez is a housing lawyer and Obama administration veteran running to represent VA's HD-100. "It's both urban and rural; it's one of the most geographically spread out districts in Virginia. It's also one of the most competitive races in 2019," he says.
When he talks to folks at their doors, @PhilforVirginia always asks, "Has another candidate for office ever knocked on your door before?” About 99% of the time, the answer is no. "It feels good to be the first—and they, I suspect, will remember that I stopped by," he says.
The top issues voters mention to @PhilforVirginia when he canvasses: "Public schools, coastal resilience and the environment, and healthcare." 
The good and bad of knocking doors: "My favorite part is finding new ways to bond with people—quickly—from all walks of life. It's a fun challenge for every door. My least favorite thing is coming across people who don't want to engage—there's so much at stake in this election!"
