The stakes are very, very high. It’s not just that state lawmakers determine who can vote and who controls Congress, though they do. States also impact millions of lives—healthcare access, civil rights, education, clean water, and more are all decided in state capitols.

Look at ME, where the new majority works to advance paid sick leave, make Rx drugs more affordable & expand access to healthcare. Or take NH, where clean drinking water policy & an independent redistricting commission have finally caught fire after the legislature flipped in '18

The picture elsewhere is less rosy: In AZ, the GOP majority is working to criminalize non-partisan voter registration. KS and TX have aggressively pursued voter suppression. The majority in FL is trying to overturn a popular referendum that expanded voting rights.

Republican majorities in Iowa, North Carolina, and Michigan have blocked efforts to ensure drinking water is safe and corporate polluters are held accountable.

In Pennsylvania and Montana, crumbling roads and bridges remain in deliberate disrepair. And across these states, regressive politicians are killing attempts to protect equal rights for LGBTQ Americans.

But together, we can have enormous impact. State legislatures are a good investment because a little money goes a long way. For a fraction—less than 10%—of what presidential hopefuls have raised so far, we have a chance to change the direction of 15 states over the next 2 yrs.
