The problem: For decades, the most consistent focus on state legislatures has come from the extreme right wing & corporate special interests. They’ve successfully used states as laboratories to enact radical policies. It’s hard to be a state lawmaker. State governments are citizen legislatures comprised of elected officials. The work takes guts without much glory. Some state lawmakers have a couple of staff members. Many more share a single staffer. A majority have to hold down other jobs.
