In those 10 mins UCI police pulls up, knocks on our car window, and questions if my husband is a student. Mind you, most students have gone home b/c of COVID and the school year ending. Of course my husband says no but mentions I am in lab and he’s waiting for me.

The officer then asks for his ID. My husband complies. And after what I’m assuming is verifying the Irvine address on his license, the officer leaves. No explanation. No reason for bothering my husband. No crime being committed. NOTHING. Just profiling a Black man for existing

it's clear that UCI PD's email statement "race, gender, and religious affiliation are not considered suspicious" in regards to reporting activity are empty words and that's infuriating. -


I hate that this is still happening on and off UCI campus.
I honestly don’t know if Irvine city hall has any sway over the college PD, but they’re considering measures regarding some PD practices and general city budget at the June 23 council meeting. Please share your - Show replies

I am so sorry. And I am angry with you. My husband would get asked to show ID when he would come to visit me on campus for lunch. It was absolutely infuriating, EACH and EVERY single time.

Seriously?! That is crazy. My husband visits me all the time at the SAME campus and this has NEVER happened to him (he’s white). Maddening.
