The slope is actively being greased. There is an army of plant based advocates already in position to pounce on any opportunity to impose taxes (for multiple reasons) on those things that we believe are necessary for healthy life, and planet. Get government & laws OUT of this.

Yes. It is more politically profitable for politicians to subscribe to the diet heart hypothesis and play along with the UN sustainability argument against animal products. They will tax our healthiest foods and ignore sugar and the processed food industry. "Carbage" would win.

The UK already has it's Soft Drinks Industry Levy, and is pushing for essentially a 'sin tax'. Government is claiming it is under increasing pressure to tax red meat as they claim it will end generations of deaths. Completely ridiculous- and as you stated, is only a short jump!

For me I wanted education to be before taxation. If sugar is as addictive as we think then taxing generates revenue and doesn’t address behaviours.

Changing advertising guidelines would be more effective than a tax. Stop selling candy, sweets & sugar to children & a generation could be changed!
