I need small explanation... What's does it signify biko
All ancient religions sealed covenants with blood (the "life source", I guess). That's why God dashed Abraham a ram after he stopped him from using Isaac. This is what I expect is going on here (90% sure), but would still like to find out if there are any uniquely Yoruba reasons.
But marriage covenant are not sealed with the blood of goats or rams, sex is what seals the covenant in marriage. This is already looking like some form of rituals to me really.
Like I said, there might be uniquely Yoruba reasons lol. The logic of animal sacrifice over a covenant is "be it to me as it was to this animal if I break this oath". I said in another thread, the fact that she walks *thru* the blood is more synonymous with Christian baptism.
One part of me may want to accept the quoted part of your last tweet, but that in itself is even too extreme. What If the marriage does not work? Why should it be to either of them as it was for the animal? And the Christian baptism part, nanananan! Off key.
it has nothing to do with Christian baptism, its a covenant sacrifice and its synonymous to the Abrahamic covenant. Genesis 15 vs 9-21. and Hebrews 6:13.
Baptism ("sign & seal of the covenant of grace") is the NT fulfilment of the OT sign (circumcision) in Uncle Abe's covenant. So, yes, what she's done is synonymous with Christian baptism. Esp b/c she walks thru the fluid. They could've just killed the thing & ate jollof, right?
lol!! bro did you even read the scriptures I dropped?
yes, your point was unclear tbh so I just re-explained myself lol. Gen 15:9-21 is not the sign of the covenant, circumcision is (Gen17:13). And in the NT, it's baptism (Rom4:11). My point was never abt the sacrifice, but the sign of a covenant (which in the NT, is baptism).
