I think is because some community managers are diminishing past games to justify flaws of the current game, not a wise idea imo to bemoan your own older projects to put the current in a better light. Fans are bound to get annoyed lol

I read the article, which included a lot of tweets. It's a very delicate and tricky thing talking as an employee, as I am sure you can imagine. Seems to me that there were passionate feelings from many people involved in the conversation.
