I spent the entire afternoon recording and editing (or at least trying to edit) my second alien let's play, only to come to the conclusion that the sound just isn't right. The sims' voices are at times louder than mine, so I need to find a way to fix that....oh well...

I worried about that too, so what I did was just record for a bit. Stop, listen to the video back, with my headphones on, then repeat till I got it right. Hope this helps!

Yeah, thanks! That's what I'm going to do. In the game I can turn down the volume and I'm just trying to figure out what the right volume is now. Maybe Fraps is the problem as well, because I can't choose a 'main' audio input or whatever. I'll figure it out eventually.

It's tricky to do when you're using your PC for a lot of other things too. Like I have it at different volumes when I'm watching TV shows, editing video, reviewing my own video...etc I adjust it all over the place. It'd be nice to have dedicated hardware but you know.. expensive!

I literally just use my speakers when I'm recording Let's Plays and let the sound coming from them go into the same microphone as I'm talking into (which is closer to me than the speakers). Probably not ideal but it works well.. in my opinion.

That's actually a really good idea!!! What program do you use to record videos?

OBS Studio. If you're not already using it, I highly recommended it and I can help you with the settings if need be.

That'd be awesome! I'm using Fraps, but it generates huge files! I used to have OBS studio, but it just confused the hell out of me..hahaha!

I've never used Fraps! I just googled what others were using and it lead me first to the standard OBS, then to the much more detailed and useful OBS Studio. Honestly, I can help you set it up. I don't mind.
