Haha! My compromise in this heat has been to lie on the duvet but fold up the edge and hold it between my legs and arms.

I do something similar! I can't sleep without a duvet so I have it over my shoulders but kind of wriggle the rest of my body out at the side.

Yeah there has been some nights where it was so hot at first, but I wake up later and it's cold, so I then roll off the duvet and crawl under it. Then it's already nicely warmed from having me on top of it all night!
