    Mineral exploration has virtually disappeared in Alberta, and is slowing down county wide. Many of those dollars are going to exploration projects in “politically safer” jurisdictions such as the US, South America, Australia.

    Sadly, Canada has lost most of its major mining companies and it appears Barrick is next on the list. Of course the ore is still in the ground, but the head office jobs and resultant spin-off benefits are gone.
