Libraries are incredible as Susan Orlean’s new book shows. ‘The Library Book invites the reader to recollect (if they have by any chance forgotten) what extraordinary institutions libraries are.’ 2/4

A woman on this train just deliberately snapped the spine of a book. Years foraging second hand book shops meant I had long suspected the existence of such monsters, but to face one in the flesh made my blood freeze
