It is however saying something about that entire era of writing and the mentality behind it: Declarative, authoritative, stating things as being The Right Way. It's a mentality that the audience reading these books very often turned to themselves! AD&D 1e was worse about that.

My gf didn't believe me at first when I told her about it. Had to grab my copy off the shelf to show her. I only found out last year that the edition prior imposed a Str cap on female characters.

One of my first DMs (2ed) still was giving different ability adjustments to female PCs... and didn’t get why I thought that was ridiculous.

A fun thing in Japanese is that you often leave the subject of the sentence implied, and while pronouns are a thing, you're supposed to use them sparingly. Japanese TRPG writing uses that to avoid having to use pronouns, gendered or otherwise.

That's how I ended up developing a habit of writing RPG text in the second person, which is really easy once you get the idea in your head.
