Good thread on types of capabilities and actions that have been in play for years, and are now being understood and (better) tracked outside of inner circles. /cc

One night of sleep deprivation needs 2 nights of sleep recovery to restore global brain efficiency, but still doesn't restore local brain efficiency. This is all in just your average neurotypical brain.

Excellent opinion on the iPad by . Ten years ago, I was part of the team working on the iPad (delivering the tools to build third party apps). Today, I don't use an iPad anymore. There is something not right here.

Is there any pattern from Apple‘s Foundation rename for Swift? Some classes kept NS, some were stripped, some are now structs - but I can‘t read out a clear design goal here. Seems kinda random?

99 smartphones are transported in a handcart to generate virtual traffic jam in Google Maps. Through this activity, it is possible to turn a green street red which has an impact in the physical world by navigating cars on another route!

A thing I’ve been working on for Codea I want assets (3D models, sprites, folders, etc) to track the filesystem live from your code What you see here is me deleting a file in the files app, then Codea noticing and telling you the the file referred to statically doesn’t exist

Water: Four billion living in regions of high water stress by 2030 says the UN, and that doesn't take into account abrupt warming from feedbacks. 600 million people in India alone will have no access to drinking water by 2030 according to a recent report.

🔥 Most tropical corals die at 1.5°C (70-90%). We hit 1.5C in the 2020s: 🔥 2°C of global warming (2029 - 2039) means the destruction of 99% of the world’s tropical reefs. Even stopping emissions immediately wouldn't save them.

“The chance that there will be any permanent ice left in the Arctic after 2022 is essentially zero,” Anderson said, with 75-80% of permanent ice having melted already in the last 35 years “Can we lose 75-80% of permanent ice and recover? The answer is no"

Remember: 1. Arctic sea ice gone by 2025 2. Antarctic ice collapse starts 2026 3. Coral reefs dead by 2027 4. Rainforests dying by 2028 5. 4 billion people lack water: 2029 6. Megacities uninhabitable by 2039 7. Most species extinct by 2049 This couldn't be true. Could it?

Btw: The game itself, 25% CPU. The main menu? 150%. The main menu is more expensive than the actual game.

I've been trying to figure out why the main menu performance on Warcraft 3 Reforged is so bad. It ends up the whole main menu is a web app running on Chrome. This thing runs worse than the actual game (likely because it's pegging an entire core of my CPU.)

I was around Steve Jobs yelling a few times. When the iPhone took off, a lot of people seemed to have concluded that the secret of his success was due to... yelling at people (and maybe black turtlenecks). It’s tragic on so many levels it makes my head hurt.

The state of modern Apple’s developer documentation. Weird to think they once had outstandingly detailed and useful documentation.
