Puzzling to hear BBC Home Affairs Correspondent repeatedly referring to "Tommy" rather than "Tommy Robinson" on @bbc5live just after 11am. Not sure BBC usually adopts first name terms with people in this situation

I noticed that on Radio 4. There was a creepy almost reverence towards the freeing of this common criminal It didn't really mention that this is probably going to Appeal and a return to Prison. #BiasedBBC

I got that feeling too. Though @eddiemair gave the Canadian bullshitter (I won't name him) a reasonable argument, the entire segment was almost a deification of a repeat offender petty criminal.

Not blaming you, @eddiemair. It sounded like your hands were tied - editorially - and you did what you could within those constraints.

Fascinating & bourne out in my practical experience of being a viewer & listener. Extraordinary to hear that BBC R4 Today Prog has lost 800k listeners in a year trying to pass it off as a slow news period! I mean really? I feel as if this country is engaged in a war for its soul.

It would be more appropriate to refer to him as “Robinson” - using his first name is unacceptably cosy.

According to the BBC style guide, convicted criminals should be surname only, and that is how they refer to him on the website at least ('Tommy Robinson' first mention, 'Robinson' thereafter) http://www.bbc.co.uk/academy/journalism/article/art20130702112133537 …

It’s not his real name, if the media used that one no one would know who they talking about & thing would die out.

Tone is so important on news reports. Don’t, for God’s sake, normalise Robinson or his behaviour.
