Hi @TeamYouTube my entire channel with 183k subscribers had just been demonetized, this channel is my job and only income. I can't just lose the monetization like this, I have rent and bills to pay. What is happening? HELP @grandayy

Well, using a gif, a picture or even music is allowed for use on YouTube. If they had a problem with it it would have been taking down a long time ago. I am not re-uploading full shows and it is even allowed to upload music & remixes.

In legal terms... there is no such thing as fair use, given the change in copyright law I can imagine YouTube are taking precaution with certain channels that upload possible copyrighted material, I can imagine a lot of music upload channels are getting hit given their content.

And well, they already have a copyright system that takes care of these issues. Why demonetize entire channels when the copyright system could work just fine for my type of content? It simply makes no sense at all.
-
Because you are making money using their legal intellectual property. That's what companies sue each other for... makes a lot of sense xD

The worst thing is that other big music channels that are doing exactly the same thing as mine are or will not be demonetized because they're big and have a bigger impact on the revenues. Talk about justice and fairness.
-
Maybe those big channels have permission? I have never seen SuicideSheeep use a screenshot from a television show

Using an image of a show falls under fair use.
-
yes but like i just said, legally 'fair use' doesn't exist, YouTube can be held accountable now and even sued because you used a copyrighted image without permission. Fair use or not, in a court of law it doesn't matter.
