"Harvard Chemistry Chief Arrested Over China Links ..." (Nature News 2/3). Charles Lieber has posted $1 million bail for allegedly receiving "under the radar" payment of $750 K yearly from Wuhan U. of Technology. Those yuans should have been spent on virology, not nanobots!

I've heard of a heart of stone, cauliflower ears, a cast iron stomach, (and treated an icepick headache) but a glass (vitrified) brain from the eruption of Vesuvius C.E. 79 (Petrone et al NEJM 382:4) has added vulcanism to my neuropathologic horizon!

Given our hallucinatory political scene, I list the commonest human hallucinations (sensations not elicited by external stimuli): 1.Tinnitus 2. Visual aura of migraine 3. Vertigo 4. Paresthesias (hand "falls asleep") 5. Dreams All 5 symptoms are treatable. Politics? Maybe not.

WSJ: Hospitals now grant Amazon access to crunch data in millions of patient records. Will new cures or predatory insurance premiums result? EHR data relies on ICD-10 diagnostic codes which can be non-specific or worse. If hospital data is linked to the wrong code, analysis fails.

Are machines intelligent? In 1950 Turing defined intelligence with the "imitation game." An interlocutor texts questions to an unseen human and an algorithm. If answers are indistinguishable, machines must be intelligent. Ever talk back to a Robocall? You flunked Turing's Test!

According to Parsonnet human body temperature has declined 0.03 degrees C. per decade since 1860. Due to the biophysics of nerve membranes (Q10 effect), nerve conduction velocity slows with lower tissue temperature. Do "cooler" (literally) people have slower speed of thought?

The experiment continues. On Twitter Day #2 I had 0 followers ... and I dig "under the radar" social media. So far it's kind of like if SETI and a Zen koan ( if a tree falls ...) had a baby.

3 reasons why are docs retiring early? Mine Did. Electronic Medical Records (Noise >>>Signal), corporatization of care, and predatory 3rd party payors! R.I.P. scholarly clinician.

Do 85 billion cortical neurons account for the mind? There are lots of smart folks on Twitter; so can anyone answer this question in 240 characters or should we give up?
