    Gotta shout-out 's 2016 Symphonic Overture on 'America the Beautiful,' w/a playful fugue subject in the shape of Pikes Peak, then a chorale of America the Beautiful w/fugue continuing under, right to the end! (fugue starts at 0:28)

    Dinner conversation on music tonight—which didn't reach any resolution: Which living composer is best equipped to write a great fugue? The focus here isn't on actual fugues written, but on the inherent ability. Easier question: Who was the last great composer of fugues?

    For years, I took comfort in the fact that MOST major league center fielders were older than me. Then that there were still SOME who were older than me. Then that Ichiro was still playing.

    For the 1st time, the president has nominated someone for the Supreme Court who is younger than me. I'm sure it's just a fluke. It'll never happen again.
