I think the big mistake was when we depersonalised wars by giving them numbers instead of names. But giving them positive-sounding names like 'The Great War' isn't such a good idea either. We should go for something like 'The Melted Babies War'.

Great in that context was referring to the war's magnitude & seriousness, not implying positivity.
