    I realise am commenting this for a second time, but people receive gifts. And a gift can be a smart phone of a WiFi enabled device. Even if u don't earn, u can have a smart phone period

    I don’t agree with the argument that someone who can afford to buy a smart phone can fail to raise an additional 200shs as daily levy for OTTs.Mind u its optional,if you have no productive business on Facebook or whatever you can plan your days accordingly and pay less tax.

    These Honourable members are really busy and as a result loose touch with real life down here. Without the feel of how omuntu wawansi lives, you are subjected to making wrong decisions that are not in anyway applicable to your society.

    A small earner doesn't consume content after all he/she will not be in position to own a wifi enabled device like a smart phone. Let's be realistic in these arguments

    The problem here is, are taking a wrong assumption that everyone can afford 6k on top of buying data bundles. As a leader, you gat consider even the lowest income earner and his ability to pay the levy you consider 'small'.Ugx.200 is someone's dailybundlle

    There is no monthly pay of shs 6000. Even hiring a casual labourer to work in garden (half day), u pay for that daily labour (Omuzizi) shs 7000. And such people also pay tax on goods they consume. So if you earning from you online business surely that shs6000 is not prohibitive

    I cn bet ths money wil never go 2 ths cause , I can bet after 10yrs of collecting 200shs frm every living thng,there wil still nt be any broadband to speak about. bt we shall hv a motion 2 amend th constitution abt God knows what.And MPs will be paid off ths money

    Thanks. But in when a bill is tabled, committees invite members of the public & stakeholders to give views. Like I said before, tax bills are reviewed every year so consultations won't be in vain

    Yes I agree. Also many students in many universities &schools in many parts of Uganda need their labs connected to broadband so that they can be able to surf and facilitate their research. Reason why is mobilizing tax revenues to roll out this crucial infrastructure

    Mr. Minister, most students at universities use social media to share course files, and to announce lecture schedules, emergencies and cancellation among others. please this matter is not "dealing with lugambo" as some people are referring to it.

    How can you allow your pages to die by thousands for only shs6000 a month? You will pay and move on. Connectivity will stimulate more demand for your page

    Ok since you say we do this soberly.... What's your timeframe until the infrastructure you hope to build comes online? Until I get more clients? Starting tomorrow, my page's rich will die by thousands. When is your broadband coming to my rescue?

    Govt is taxing freely available services. Most of the people don't pay for these services and they don't make any money from them. I think it'd have made a bit more sense taxing Internet access, or people/businesses that earn from them.

    Thx too for the dialogue. We will convene a dialogue soon with stakeholders like & all of u friends online about this tax &other issues surrounding impact to the domestic telecommunications industry , then our consensus conclusions will be sent to

    Not very many people can afford what you call a “small levy” of OTTs tax to access social media which they could have used to grow SMEs in the country. Also, thanks for your time . Have a great evening!

    Let's debate soberly Mr Kamya. U will agree with me that internet usage has gone up bse of increased investment in connectivity by both & private sector. For ur FB page to get more traffic, u need more pple online. So It's more connectivity that take pple online .

    What he meant is that fewer people will access his facebook page not that he won't be able to pay and use his social media. You really didn't think about this. Those who passed & supported this law like lumumba were emotional too. You've reduced our earning capacity.

    It's a small levy. Fortunately tax measures are reviewed every yr. If any tax becomes inhibitive & adversely affects consumption &business profits it gets reviewed because it will affect the overall income tax revenue. So the impact can be measured scientifically.

    I absolutely have no problem with paying. The only concern is are the people who have been consuming my product going to pay? If they don't pay, will I be able to keep hold of the advertisers or they are just to abandon me for print and mainstream.
