In this early stage of AI deployment at scale, we're seeing the flaws and wondering, why? Why are we trusting machine learning to handle tasks that can only best be done by real people (for now)? There are huge risks for losers of failed algorithmic analysis in every realm.

Whatever the relative merits, the practice of one human reading another human's work embodies respect for the dignity of the writer. The AI grading here is classic "seeing like a state" neglect & tyranny, denying the writers an opportunity for reasoned interaction or appeal.
