I’m seeing lots of backlash so I’ll clarify: I said 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 monuments should stay, not all of them Confederate statues shouldn’t be in public squares; statues of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Abe Lincoln should. But the latter are being targeted too, which is absurd.

Our Founding Fathers were imperfect men, and we should tell their stories warts and all to be historically accurate. But we should celebrate their visionary leadership thru our nation’s history in pursuit of a more perfect union. (No, that doesn’t include Confederate founders.)

Yeah, but Germany is also covered with monuments to those who suffered at the hands of the Nazis. We really don’t have that level of memorialization of the suffering under slavery in America to balance out the Confederate statues
-
Germany doesn’t have monuments to honor the Third Reich and still has them for victims. No need to balance them out.

So true! How do we people to see?!

How can you not see the significant difference? Are there statues of Hitler? Are there Nazi flags that people fly with pride?

Frank - My grandfather survived Buchenwald. I made a film about it and I have visited the Buchenwald Memorial three times. There is not a single statue there of any Nazis heroically sitting on horses with their swords outstretched. Statues are honors, and we don't honor monsters.

Those monuments at Auschwitz are dedicated to the VICTIMS, not their murderers.

I’ve been to Auschwitz; this is a false equivalency. In no way is that place honored the way we honor the confederacy. There are no statues there or in Krakow. You cannot buy anything related to Auschwitz outside of the camp. An honest plantation museum would maybe come close
