I did my first interview with a non-Indigenous hereditary chief in 1999 and still wonder how I managed my nerves, I was a kid. I’m about to do an interview for a story I’m working on and I have butterflies. The feels don’t go away, embrace them. ✊🏽💞❤️🔥

I haven’t always been the 1st choice. A guy was too old for the funding for the APTN studio crew internship, so a spot opened up and I got in. A journo couldn’t go to Germany, there was a last minute opening, I went. Never felt less than, just seized my opportunity. ✊🏽
I was very surprised when the cashier remembered me. He said he only knows of 1 other person who uses an #Indian#Status Card for #tax#exempt. I told him I’d remember him too. This is an act of #reconciliation even if it’s small, one more new #Canadian will remember us. ✊🏽❤️
1 of the greatest most subtle acts of #reconciliation is using my #Indian#Status Card for tax exemption on daily purchases. Sometimes the cashier is learning for the first time, other times they remember me from before! ✊🏽 One said “Imagine the deal on a car.” 🤷🏻♀️#inherentrights
what you’re doing here is the dream. 💓 I talked about it during NAJA’s conference committee meeting last night. Thank you for being a role model and trailblazer. ✊🏽
Yep, this is me blowing my own horn! Super excited about this project I've been working on at @JournalismCU.
