I did my first interview with a non-Indigenous hereditary chief in 1999 and still wonder how I managed my nerves, I was a kid. I’m about to do an interview for a story I’m working on and I have butterflies. The feels don’t go away, embrace them. ✊🏽💞❤️‍🔥

I haven’t always been the 1st choice. A guy was too old for the funding for the APTN studio crew internship, so a spot opened up and I got in. A journo couldn’t go to Germany, there was a last minute opening, I went. Never felt less than, just seized my opportunity. ✊🏽

APTN accurately identifies Jully Black. My first time seeing her introduced as Jamaican-Canadian. #respect ✊🏽
