Reading Roger Scruton's book "Culture Counts: Faith and Feeling in a World Deranged". I have to say this is not going well. How on earth can he seriously assert that learning Greek, Latin and ancient history was what enabled the bureaucrats of the British Empire to govern India?

Or this: "It was knowledge that enabled those 1,000 British civil servants to govern the vast subcontinent of India". No it wasn't, it was military power.
