There aren't a lot of ways you can react to the incomprehensible. Either you love it, you hate it, or you are indifferent, but either way you don't get anything out of it (otherwise it wasn't really incomprehensible to begin with)
Genre-savvy Lovecraftian horror seems like it naturally turns into "Lovecraftian for different emotions than horror"... Main character doesn't stare blankly at the incomprehensible. Doesn't necessarily embrace it, either, but can have many different reactions.

I think the genre-savvy reaction I'm imagining doesn't assume apparent incomprehensibly = true incomprehensibly.
