I'm a new volunteer coordinator for a festival. I want make the festival more relevant to more people, for the insiders how about a workshop? For topics I thought maybe social media analytics or writing effective press releases. Thoughts?

During our "build your own trilobite" activity one of my Paleobiology students decided to argue that since legs in trilobites don't fossilize well, we can never prove they didn't have super swole man legs. I present to you... Trogdorlite 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Good news out of the Kangaroo Island bushfires! Heard the minister for my department , David Speirs, announcing that the concentration of Feral Pigs on due to the loss of their habitat has given the perfect opportunity for a cull which aims to eliminate them all

Didn't realise it was so here's a pic I took of the smoke haze blanketing the South East of SA probably from the Kangaroo Island fires on my way to work this morning. It doesn't look too bad in the photo, but it was bad enough for me to want to take it.

No surprises there's big US money behind climate denial in Aus with the way people here parrot libertarian talking points, to the extent elected representative Barnaby Joyce was brazen in crying about muh gubmint in his Christmas Eve video.

In today: My rough estimate of total number of animal species at risk of due to . 700 is lower bound, but likely an order of magnitude greater. Huge number, but can't make it smaller

The highly endangered Kangaroo Island Dunnart, the island's only endemic mammal, just lost 100% of its habitat. It's not known whether any have survived. Please donate to help to assess the damage and protect the survivors:

After studying the endangered KI dunnart for the last two and a half years it's been heart breaking to watch its entire known range burn in the last 2.5 days.

infrastructure at Kelly Hill Caves on KI is lost, along with the visitor centre and research centre at Flinders Chase NP. Thinking of staff 😢. In NSW Yarrangobilly Caves in Kosciuszko NP very much in danger. Jenolan still in trouble. 😢😩

The scale of the KI bushfire is unfathomable and everyone is very much in shock. There is much concern for the KI dunnart and glossy black cockatoo but it’s too early to make any predictions on how they have fared. We are already looking for remnant patches of unburnt habitat 🤞

How to stay cool in summer? Visit a tourist cave. Just not Buchan Caves ('smashed' on NYE), Jenolan Caves (impacted on NYE, closed), Wombeyan Caves (under threat this Saturday, closed), Wee Jasper Cave (region under evacuation), ...

The grim reality is that this season will get a whole lot worse before it gets better. Please stay safe!

The direct impact on a significant number of the small community of Australasian Cave And Karst Management Association administrators and guides that I met at the guides school and conference at Naracoorte this year is really hammering home the breadth of the crisis.

The geographic spread of the current bushfire crisis is immense. Significant show caves across three states have lost structures, more are under threat, huge areas of karst (cave forming landscape) with environmentally but not economically significant sites have been burnt out.

Ozone Hole/Layer? The Governments of the world got together, formed the Montreal Protocol, and banned the CFCs (ChloroFluoroCarbons) that had been damaging the Ozone Layer for the previous 50 years. The Ozone Layer then began to recover, and is still repairing itself.
