Term limits are for the most part a bad idea. There's a slew of poli sci on the subject. It emboldens extremism, lobbyists and lessens attention to citizen concerns within the district.https://twitter.com/BetoORourke/status/994674786075848705 …

Just joined my colleagues in introducing bipartisan legislation to limit the number of years a member of Congress can serve. We must end the perpetual re-election of Reps and Senators, and start bringing new voices, ideas, and perspectives to the Capitol.

To be fair there is literature on both sides of this. Term limits have advantages and disadvantages.

it prevents building personal trust between senators/house members and without trust they will even more partisan than ever. this is a truly stupid idea and i do support beto otherwise

I tend to agree. I'm not opposed to them entirely, but I think the limit should be higher than most people will tend to say. (4 in senate, 10 in house maybe?) There is something to be said for experience and continuity.

this is an unpopular view, but since there’s no term limits for lobbyists, they’re the ones who would have the longevity to know how Washington works. lobbyists already write too much legislation as it is.

That’s just it: with no term limits you can always aim at incumbents through primaries.

I'm not too fond of term limits. I think mandatory retirement ages for electeds would be better. What gets lost with term limits is the institutional knowledge in the staff.

And oversight is hard when you have little experience. The same trick can be for pulled over and over by bureaucrats and new legislators would be clueless.

I agree unequivocally, but extremism itself (taken as views outside Overton window) isn't inherently a negative. Criticisms should probably draw a finer point on that one
