Better? So why don't American buy American-made before the tariffs? And after the tariffs, which products do you buy shifting from Chinese-made to American-made?

Author "forgets" to mention how the tariff is applied—it's not on the wholesale price of goods entering the US. It's on the "first sale" price, ie. when it leaves China. Often there's a big disparity between the two. Price increase will be a fraction of what he implies.

Tariffs drive purchasers to the next lower price. The purpose in this case is to move manufacturing out of China. The United States is protecting itself from an aggressor nation.

What could substitute the imports from China. Nothing. Subsidies for American products would be better than tariffs on Chinese imports to the States.pic.twitter.com/Y22tfTC7px
