I added the opengraph image so twitter would in theory show a screenshot of it in the preview but it doesn't seem it works. maybe twitter is caching it

and I added some generic opengraph versions of the tags so now it'll hopefully work better on non-twitter websites

It stopped updating right after that, so i gotta go check my garage for sabotage by emerald mine billionaires

OK fixed. I don't think it was any musky huskies sneaking in, the machine just hung

Probably doesn't have enough fans for this garage. Also I bought the computer for 15$ at a junk shop

Although there were a lot of suspicious motion alerts on the camera... Maybe Musk sneakily sneaked into my garage to disable my computer!

Crashed again, lost 11 hours of lettuce footage. I've fixed it for now, but apparently I do need to get a new machine for this.

My first guess is that it's a cooling problem but I'm starting to wonder if it might be an issue with power. See, the machine is supposed to be plugged into a UPS, but it might not be, and if it's not, it's on the same circuit as a garage door opener

And both times it hung are suspiciously close to times we opened or closed the garage.

Maybe the power is getting wobbly or browning out for just long enough for it to crash?

hmm, nope. it IS on the UPS. it's not a very good UPS, just a cheap Amazon Basics model, so it probably isn't doing powerline conditioning, so that's still a slight possibility.

anyway I'm probably going to swap it for a spare raspi with adequate cooling, even if that means duct-taping it to a boxfan

I should set up Patreon/ko-fi stretch goals to upgrade to a full livestream (not just a webcam) and add additional angles.

Lettuce suffered another temporary outage. Less than an hour this time. I got a clock to put in the frame, one that displays the date, but it turns out it has a shitty reflective LCD which means it's useless as it's invisible on the webcam

Damn it. It's out again, but it's nearly midnight and I'm already in bed. Don't crash overnight Twitter, the Lettuce is currently broken

It's a real shame that my windows 95 machine doesn't have USB and can't run OBS, it had way better uptime than this.

okay. system swap completed. The lettucecam is now powered by a raspi with heatsinks and a badly placed fan. Hopefully this'll have more endurance than the system I was using!

There was no downtime, btw. I took down the old system at 5:21pm and the new one was up and running by 5:25pm

rather than signing up for pagerduty, I used an existing trial for twilio, so now I have some 24/7 alerting for Lettuce Downtime

if I hire any additional employees for Professional Lettuce Monitoring, I'll switch to pagerduty or similar, so I can define on-call schedules and fallback numbers. Right now it's just me, so a quick script that just uses the twilio api to doot at my phone is enough.
