Yesterday I had a lot of retweets and reddit posts and such for playing Doom on a pregnancy test. But as I explained then, it wasn't really PLAYING on a pregnancy test, it was just a video being played back, not an interactive game. Well, now it is. It's Pregnancy Test Doom!

You want to know something about how bullshit insane our brains are? OK, so there's a physical problem with our eyes: We move them in short fast bursts called "saccades", right? very quick, synchronized movements. The only problem is: they go all blurry and useless during this

I'm still playing with my replacement OLED display for the Equate pregnancy tester. I was worried I wouldn't have enough bandwidth to do real time updates, but it turns out that 128x32 at 1bpp doesn't take much bandwidth at all.

Hey Cloudflare, here's a fun fact: you aren't the only CDN/reverse proxy/DDOS protection service. And when my boss is like "hey which CDN should we set up?" and I look at the options, I don't immediately have a hugely negative opinion of Fastly or Akamai or CacheFly.

In TNG, Picard has a flute he sometimes plays. The only problem is that Sir Patrick Stewart cannot play the flute. So they have someone else's hands pretend to play it while he makes silly facial expressions, and they dub in music later. Once you see it, you can't unsee it.

It's tempting to think of your eyes and visual system as a camera just dumping a video feed into your conscious brain but that's so very, very not the case. What you think you see and what your eyes can actually see are two exceptionally different things.

first, it basically puts your visual system on "pause". You're not seeing blackness or even nothing, you're just not seeing period. then when you finish your saccade, it shows you what you now see at the new position. and then it pretends it can time travel.
