Let me explain that chart above. Top 8 athletes straightforwardly qualify. There are then continental places up for grabs for those ranked 9 or lower. Hubbard is 7 - outright qual. Amoe bumped to 9 - move from outright qual to Oceania qual. Manumua bumped from Oceania qual.
This is being shared widely again. Nini Manumua was offered an invitational place. The female competitor now missing out is, as far as can be traced, Roviel Detenamo.

There is such a short window of olympic opportunity for (most) athletes, to know that she.was good enough, bus was robbed of her place so unfairly must be a bitter pill to swallow.
And to be unable to express said frustration without being lambasted as a bigot. Awful

It’s complicated, but Amoe was displaced from a top 8 ‘full’ qualifying place by LH, so dropped into the ‘Oceania’ spot...it’s like dominoes.
Re: age - I'm assuming that someone entering the competition at aged 43 is incredibly atypical and that natal women would have usually retired by then?
Yes. It also used to be the case that competing in a men's division for any sport meant you were restricted from re-entry to women's divisions. Sometimes this was informal, but widely viewed as sportsmanship. It's a significant advantage to train and compete with men's teams.
