Hey remember when the whole pitch of "ride share" apps was "you're already driving downtown to work, why not pick up someone on your way there and make some cash!?" and it immediately turned into "actually we're here to destroy cabs, unions, and public transportation."

Yep. The original idea AFAIK was to make transport more efficient by sharing rides to the same destination.

In a way, we’re all just sharing rides

kinda like when airbnb first came around all like "rent out that extra room for some money on the side!" And then right away pivoted to "actually we're just gonna destroy the housing market again"

I feel like this has to have been the plan all along, just with a very convenient cover.

In much the same way that AirBnB went straight from "why not make a few bucks renting your house while you're out of town?" to "actually let's ruin the housing and rental markets of most major cities."

For real, there's markets totally being propped up by Airbnb. Before if no one could afford rent, landlords were forced to lower it. Now they just charge people $100/night and get double what they would've renting it out. Basically turned apartment buildings into shitty hotels
