2/ here's one such piece of analysis. Is this correct? No idea. But pick your own - they all come to generally the same conclusion. Within 15 years at most, solar is extremely likely to be cheaper than coal.pic.twitter.com/VNJsUMyDRP

3/ Why does this matter? Because renewable energy isn't zero sum. We don't run out of solar energy. Yes, there is a cost (both monetary and environmental) to producing a running a solar farm, but it's tiny compared to fossil fuels.

4/ So if Bitcoin incentivizes the creation of brand new solar farms, and simultaneously speeds up the research and economies of scale that improve efficiencies, you may get a net positive environmental impact from greater electricity consumption from PoW mining.

I'll respond point by point. 1. True, manufacturing anything has environmental cost - as always we have to judge on a relative basis. We may get more on-site manufacturing from 3d printing over time. 2. This only applies if the consumption is local. Mining BTC is 24/7,

2/ and it's always daylight somewhere in the world. 3. Renewables were simply inefficient. We'd expect near zero growth in usage until the "crossover" point, and then very rapid growth in usage. We're nearing the crossover point.

Transmission and dispatch costs are complicated and take decades to do grid switches on energy feedstocks, usually 5. Read Energy Transitions by Vaclav Smil.

Replacing infrastructure does tend to be extremely slow, largely because it's public with poor economic incentives. When incentives are aligned you see exponential improvements, like we've seen in ASIC technology.

We’ve been trying solar and fusion for decades now, meanwhile humanity’s biggest killer is air pollution, and there’s ~40k laws dictating money transmission....... The westerner’s hope for solar gets easterner’s submission choked out of uranium/plutonium access.

Context: Average American has 12x the amount of energy per annum than the average Indian..... Energy purgatory...we burn coal. Solar is a joke......

Do you see the lack of development on nuclear a purely social perception/political issue? Are there fundamental economic gatekeepers in the way?
