The concept of “illegal numbers” is interesting and complex. Everything can be represented as a number. If possession or distribution of some information can be illegal, must some integers be illegal as well? If not, does this mean that no possession/distribution is illegal?https://twitter.com/lopp/status/976874413487476738 …

Its an interesting concept, particularly because mathematics are nearly universally accessible, and the Streisand effect. If you ban a number x, would you also ban x/2? Or any other easy function to reach the illegal number? Means to circumvent the ban are infinite.

All it takes is one viral case of a nation attempting a ban, and that information will become immortalized by rebels around the web. Without the means to restrict mathematics (or computation for large numbers), restricting access to certain numbers is a futile effort.

Tired: Reporting a false hostage situation, swatting my enemies. Wired: Planting illegal numbers on my enemies and calling the Ministry of Approved Information.
