Passphrases must be 6 words or more. Symbols and numbers are beneficial but optimal. 2fa tied to sim cards is blacklisted industry wide, at least until phone companys get their shit together Biometrics make great userIDs, but in most cases terrible passwords.

Would love to see some data on the ability of a platform to register users, relative to their use of Google/Facebook proxy signups. Horrible infosec, but extremely beneficial to the service in terms of providing a neat and easy UX for onboarding customers.

It's a big reason why developers choose to use these services to handle authentication. In their minds, why should they worry about building auth when they can let "the big guys" do it for them?

I would generally steer toward avoiding social network authentication. The disadvantages seem to outweigh the benefits. There are minor UX improvements IMO. Perhaps it may establish trust with the user, but a strong UX otherwise should do just as well.

If shipping a quality service or product with its own substantial UX once in the walls, I think it's a best practice. Especially if it has no or unsubstantial competition. Most services don't have such a cleanly defined niche. Feels like a rat race to the bottom at times.

The onboarding problem touches on the problem of data portability, which has become an nagging constant concern of mine since I began drinking

Data interoperability is at the center of enhanced UX. This is a huge reason why every industry is screaming "blockchains" as a solution to all their problems. They're missing the bigger picture here, but that is probably for another thread.

This thought, but had unironically by several attendees to Burning Man, last, and this, year. "Holyshit what if we did social media... But on the blockchain?" ICO capped at 1bn USD, per industry standards* (*Based on valuation of Tron and similar ICO's)
