    Naming the species after Tom Emmel was a natural choice, Andy Warren said. Tom's legacy includes his mentorship of many professional and amateur lepidopterists, and founding the only institution in the world solely dedicated to butterfly & moth research.

    Nearly 60 years ago, lepidopterist Thomas Emmel collected butterflies in the highlands of Mexico--they’ve finally been discovered to be a new species. A chance encounter by brought the small brown Cyllopsis tomemmeli into the spotlight. Story:

    Goliath frogs 🐸 are native to parts of Cameroon & Equatorial Guinea in western Africa, and they are listed as on the due to serious population decline. Their biggest threat is that they’re hunted as a food source, but they also suffer from habitat loss.

    Goliath frogs can grow to over 12 inches long from snout to vent, and can weigh >7 lbs! That's as big as some cats 🐱! Unlike most frogs, these amphibians don't have vocal sacs to produce a mating call. Instead, they produce a long whistling sound while holding their mouth open.

    Why are we talking about frogs on ? Goliath frogs (Conraua goliath) are the largest frog species in the world and these anurans have teeth! They're known to eat insects, worms, smaller frogs, crabs, young turtles and small snakes.
