5th: & I met in the Rams press box at 2000 NFC title game. Like everyone else back then we had both taken a leap of faith & were kinda thinking the same thing: ”This could be so great, I hope it works out.” Yep, I’d say it worked out okay.

4th time: In ‘03 I asked if I could write feach on Dewayne White in voice of his dead dad. Chad said “You’re so weird but, ok, give it a try.” All the crazy ideas I’ve pitched at The Mag, that’s always the response. Sure, give it a try. Can’t ask for more as a writer

Third time: in 2010ish, I got a note from editor Chris Berend who said something close to “Congratulations they just okay’ed your Poop Story for the Body Issue, you should go ahead and just retire now, because it will never get better than this.”

Second time was in 2011 - we did an entire issue on Michael Vick (only time we’ve done that, I think) & needed more access, so I PayPal’ed part of a private plane to get & I exclusive time w/Vick. That issue got an Ellie nom.

First time I knew I had found a home at The Mag: when my infant daughter was hospitalized b4 the SB in 2003, I called editor Gary Hoenig & b4 I could even ask to go home he said “Why aren’t you at the airport?”

Love as a way to celebrate ESPN The Mag’s 20th BDay but I still think the entire issue should have been an oral history of our epic staff retreat in Montauk.

This show was great & is a draft guru and a TV natural - it’s not fair. Takeaways from Georgia pro day

The greatest trick the selection committee ever pulled was convincing the hoops world to celebrate Cinderellas instead of focusing on their utterly incompetent seeding.
