I hate to tell you this, but you need to step up your pandemic precautions, upgrade your mask, and reduce potential exposures. More contagious variants are here, and one of them in particular is moving fast.nytimes.com/2021/01/19/wel

"One way to significantly improve the seal and fit of your surgical mask is to use a mask brace or mask fitter. [...] Studies show that these devices dramatically improve the filtration efficiency of surgical masks." Thanks for the shoutout ! means #BetterMasks

Cloth and surgical masks don't cut it against omicron. But what if that's all you can find? cnet.co/3Fs53RA

The same applies if there's a shortage of #BetterMasks. That's why we made the most scalable option for improving fit we could think of.

What's frustrating about the masks issue-- if the head of the CDC is still saying that respirators are too uncomfortable for most people (again, not true; some models may be, others not), shouldn't a big priority be to solve this rather than rely on it as a reason for inaction?

"Surgical masks can still work really well with a mask fitter [i.e., a frame or brace that is worn over the mask, ensuring an improved fit]" Mask fitters are the easiest way to make any mask a #BetterMask

Great interview @AbraarKaran! Exactly what CDC ought to be saying but instead recently on PBS CDC director recommended “two-layer cotton masks” w/o electrostatic filters. Yet Dr. Fauci + @CDCDirector were on TV the other day w/ @POTUS wearing N95. nymag.com/intelligencer/

The best time to upgrade mask fit was March 2020. With #omicron on the way, the second best time is now. If you can't find an N95, KN95, or KF94 that works for you, mask braces are another #BetterMask option to consider. Go to fixthemask.com for more info.

If you don’t already own a good 😷 (N95/KN95/KF94) that fits well & is comfy enough to keep on, get off Twitter NOW & buy some. Non-profit @projectn95 is affordable, helpful, & vetted. Until you get them, surgical 😷 + cloth 😷 over it indoors in public immediately. #Omicron

It was a great article although you promoted surgical masks as superior airborne PPE despite the fact they dont offer respiratory protection at all & need a brace in order to be effective which you left out. Without a tight seal, the air bypasses the mask. cdc.gov/niosh/npptl/pd

This is why you should wear an N95 (N100 more comfortable and protective) when you go to the doctor. And bring a in case they make you swap to a surgical mask.

1⃣ COVID is Airborne 2⃣You need a better fit mask "Another way to get a better fit is to use masks with straps that go around the back of the head or to use a mask brace if one only has access to a surgical mask." Thanks and for the nod to #MaskBraces!

I published a story today on why aerosol scientists say it's time for us to ditch our cloth and surgical masks and start wearing high-filtration masks like N95s, KN95s and KF94s. This is an airborne virus, so we need aerosol protection. @sciam scientificamerican.com/article/why-we

And would expect to find an even greater reduction with N95 masks or surgical masks w/ fitters such as Sadly, while vaccines remain out of reach for the world’s most impoverished people, other pandemic tools like #BetterMasks are the only viable immediate option.

The reduction was larger in villages where we (randomly) used surgical masks than those where we used cloth masks; in surgical mask villages, we saw a 12% reduction in COVID overall and a 35% reduction among those aged 60+.
