So Pasta and I are having a debate. Duhhh. Co-host differences. Apparently I’m more anti-interventionist but it’s nuanced
. But here’s the question: “The U.S shouldn’t intervene, even to prevent genocide & help spread democracy.”

My personal OP is non interventionist period but Pasta was arguing in some cases. He made Rwanda a good place of contention. I just tend to think we do more harm than help. But can see it may not be unilateral.

Our track record sucks and we aren’t the world’s police. The world would be more open to working together on peacekeeping that would prevent genocides if it wasn’t so busy reacting to the West trying to lock everything down and subtly destroy ideological opponents.

In general, American intervention is negative, so I'm not sure how to answer. If it was to help them economically, I think yes, immediately. But that money has to go directly to the people or benefit those that are oppressed in some tangible way.

The UN peacekeeping mission was botched, judging from watching "Hotel Rwanda" alone. What a mess. That needs to improve. It shouldn't be a job for the US, but for a properly functioning UN.https://theconversation.com/lessons-from-the-un-peacekeeping-mission-in-rwanda-25-years-after-the-genocide-it-failed-to-stop-122174 …

Rwanda is probably a bad example since the US supported the RPF, the group led by current dictator Paul Kagame, that slaughtered millions and helped start the war in the first place. Susan Rice maintains a strong relationships with Kagame and the US use Rwanda as a client state.

The UN should’ve intervened.

To be very clear, it should never be the responsibility of a single country to dictate what happens elsewhere. If we are acting as part of a global police force, then we are authoritarian.

Are we certain US didn't already intervene to fuel the instability?
